Sanya Malhotra is an Indian actress who gained fame with her debut Bollywood film, Dangal (2016), in which she played the role of Babita Kumari.
She belongs to a Punjabi Hindu family and was born on 25 February 1992 in Delhi, India. Her father, Sunil Malhotra is an engineer and her mother, Renu Malhotra is a homemaker. She has an elder sister, Shagun Malhotra.
She went to Ryan International School in Delhi for her schooling and Gargi College in New Delhi for her graduation.
During her college days, Sanya used to work as a theatre artist in Delhi. In 2013, she participated in the dance reality TV show, Dance India Dance but didn’t get selected in top 100. After that, she started giving auditions to try her luck in acting. At that time, she started assisting camera persons for TV commercials. Few time later, she got her first TV commercial to feature. She has also worked as a model and has walked the ramp at various fashion shows.
She made her Bollywood debut in 2016 with the biographical sports drama film, Dangal, in which she played the role of Babita Kumari (Mahavir Singh Phogat’s second daughter). After that, she joined the Aamir Khan Productions to learn the skills of pre-production, post-production, VFX, and background score. She also worked as a choreographer for the song “Sexy Baliye” of film, Secret Superstar. She has also acted in many other films like Pataakha (2018), Badhaai Ho (2018), and Photograph (2019).
