Swami Chinmayanand is an Indian politician, writer, editor, philosopher, saint, yoga guru, tantric, and educationist. He is a BJP leader and a former union minister of India.

Family:

He was born on 3 March 1947 in a royal family of Avadh in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh. He is unmarried.

Education:

Chinmayanand went to Lucknow University in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh for completing his Master of Arts (M.A.). He has also done a doctorate from the Prachya Darshan Mahavidyalaya in Vrindavan, Mathura.

Career:

He started his career as a politician. In 1999, he won the Lok Sabha election from Jaunpur and became a minister in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also runs several educational institutions in Shahjahanpur including the Swami Shukdevanand Post Graduate College (SS College). Apart from that, he runs ashrams in Shahjahanpur, Haridwar, and Rishikesh.

Chinmayanand has written several books on spiritual and religious subjects like Upanishad Saar, Geeta Bodh, Bhakti Vaibhav,Parmaarth Path, App Dipo Bhav, Athato Satya Jigajasa, and Arvind Ka Ati Maanav Vaad. He has also written autobiography, Andhere Mein Bhatakti Atma.

Swami Chinmayanand is also the editor of two monthly magazines, Vivek Rashmi and Pramarath.

Controversies:

  • In November 2011, a woman of Chinmayanand’s Mumukshu ashram in Shahjahanpur of Uttar Pradesh had accused him of abduction and rape by alleging that she was assaulted for years.
  • In August 2019, a girl law student of SS College (run by him) alleged by posting a video on Facebook that she was raped and exploited physically for over a year by Swami Chinmayanand.
